At IWA 2026 in Nuremburg, Germany and Tanfoglio, the Italian firearms company, had a very strong showing. This sniper rifle caught my eye. This is one of several straight-pull sniper rifles that I saw at the show, perhaps that design is becoming popular again.
The Tanfoglio TTR 338 Sniper is an ultra-high-end Italian straight-pull bolt-action rifle chambered in the powerful .338 Lapua Magnum cartridge, designed primarily for long-range precision shooting and sniper applications. It features interchangeable barrels, often including a conversion option in .308 Winchester, allowing users to switch calibers for cost-effective training (given how expensive 338 Lapua rounds are relative to .308) while maintaining the same chassis and action.
Built with a chrome-moly steel receiver and bolt for durability, the TTR Sniper weighs almost 17 pounds in .338 Lapua configuration and comes with a detachable box magazine holding 7 rounds, along with a matte Cerakote finish for enhanced corrosion resistance.
The Nightforce scope alone is beyond most people’s budget and, paired with the rifle itself, means you’re going to spend the equivalent of a small car for this top-of-the-line sniper rifle.
