Last September we were at the Partner 2025 arms expo in Belgrade, Serbia and the Zastava section had a PKM in 338 Norma Mag, which is the same caliber as the SIG MG338. I didn’t get a chance to examine the internals to see what kind of engineering was required to switch from 7.62x54R to 338 Norma Mag.
This is so new I don’t think it has a name yet. It was just labelled “Митраљез” which means “Machinegun” in Serbian. The 338 Norma Mag has significantly better performance vs. the venerable but aging 7.62x54R
