We are back in Europe and visiting a collector who has an extraordinary range of rare firearms. Here is the South African Techno-Arms MAG-7 12 gauge pistol. These were manufactured during the 1990s. A small number of these were imported as full-size shotguns into the US but they were required to be an awkwardly ugly, neutered version with a long barrel and clunky stock to meet import requirements.
In order for the magazine to be able to feed through the pistol grip like an Uzi, the designers had to make some difficult engineering compromises. Most importantly, this 12 gauge pistol can’t actually feed standard 2.75” 12 gauge rounds because in order to do so, the pistol grip would need to be so large that most people would not be able to fit their hands around it. Originally a proprietary “12-gauge 60mm (2.36”)” shell was developed for the MAG-7 but these shells were not easy to come by in the US. As a result, generally US users made due with Aguila mini-shot shells that are 1.75” in length.
